Portraits

family, soldiers, headmasters, groundskeepers

Andres painted portraits throughout his career. In this selection are portraits of his mother, Grace Andres, as well as his best friend Robert S. Blodgett, a career Marine officer who died tragically of polio in 1946, and whose widow, Jane Sutton, Andres would later marry, adopting her two daughters and having three more sons.  Here are also portraits of Andres' father and mother in-law, Harry Sutton and Marjorie Sutton,  Andres' grandson, Charles, fellow artist  Nunzio Vayana, and other unidentified acquaintances. By far Andres' favorite model was his wife, Jane, whom he painted throughout their marriage, and whose face and can be detected in many of his illustrations.  In later years Andres painted commissioned portraits of headmasters and board members for Tilton and Berwick Academies.
